Fly into Cusco, lots of local culture, food and history in the region, do Machu Picchu even though it is a major tourist site, then head off to Lake Titicaca and cross into Boliva, fly out of La Paz. Lima. The official Inca Trail is certainly a road well travelled but there are several options to be negotiated in Cusco. You have to be more clear and define your interests.
